Kavon P. Smith, Esq.

Attorney Profile

Kavon P. Smith’s practice includes residential and commercial matters, as well as claims for condominium and homeowners’ associations, including large-loss cases involving high-rise condominiums, apartment communities, shopping centers, and other complex properties across Florida.
Raised in Boston and based in Pinellas County since his teens, Mr. Smith earned a B.S. in Economics with a minor in International Affairs from the University of South Florida. Before law school, he worked as a project manager in commercial construction, overseeing large-scale remodeling projects throughout the Southeastern United States. That experience informs his approach to property-damage and construction defect cases, particularly disputes involving scope, sequencing, pricing, and causation.
Mr. Smith earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he focused his coursework on property law and civil litigation. While in law school, he was selected to participate in a constitutional property law program that included instruction from U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and observation of Supreme Court proceedings in Washington, D.C. He also served as a teaching assistant in Trial Practice for Associate Dean Amy Mashburn.
Before founding KPS Law, Mr. Smith practiced with a multi-state plaintiff-side litigation firm, handling property insurance and construction defect matters from intake through resolution. He formed KPS Law to provide property owners with focused, strategic representation in high-stakes disputes—particularly insurance claims arising from hurricanes and other catastrophic events, and defect claims involving water intrusion, stucco and building-envelope failures, roofing issues, and structural deficiencies.
Mr. Smith is admitted to practice in Florida and is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. He accepts cases statewide in Florida.
